iSchool. The future of the classroom.
Many people do not realize the cost of supplies for a school. Books, paper, pencils, etc. can cost thousands of dollars each year. Imagine how much money could be saved in each school each year if we did not have to pay for these costs. This would make more money available to pay teachers and keep programs. By being able to pay teachers, it would help keep classroom size down in turn being able to benefit students. School programs can help students become a rounded person and more prepared for life after high school. A great solution for this is iSchool. iSchool is an application for Apple products such as iTouch and iPad. With this new touch screen technology, Apple Products have made it possible to take notes, read textbooks, and interact with learning tools that could eliminate books, paper and other costs for schools. You may be thinking right now "the iPad costs too much money for each student to have one." The school would only have to buy one iPad for a student for their entire school career. Whereas now the school is paying for books for each student each year and other supplies. It can save a huge amount of money that is much needed elsewhere in the school system. Along with the cost benefits, the iSchool can make learning more hands on for students. It can get students more excited about learning which is always a plus.

I completely agree with your thoughts on the benefits of implementing the iPad and iTouch into the school when it comes to saving money, time, and developing efficiency. Learning would truly become more 'hands on', figuratively and literally. Though it would most likely motivate students to learn initially, I think that this component would change rapidly. Like a shiny, new toy, iTouches would soon be thrown into the closet with the rest of 'yesterdays' fashion. I think that iSchool is a good idea- but it lacks a compromise that would heal America's broken education system.
ReplyDeleteWhen we think of any of the gadgets that Apple comes out with it is aweing and we are taken back by its magic almost. But what happens when it is our children's generation and there is something even better and newer. The iSchool is one of those things that will at first be new to students but what happens when the dropout rate is the same and teachers took away all the things that made school the place we all remember it to be. Have we even thought of the ways that technology can be broken and networks can be down. Are we going to let our newest inventions of technology educate our students or are we going to as teachers. Do not get me wrong you have good points about how the iSchool could lower costs but what are we lowering cost for exactly. If we do not have an educated society than what benefit will America be on the rest of the world. These questions need to be brought into consideration before we think about implementing this huge idea of iSchool in our schools and realize we made some mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI agree schools and even students would save so much money if we were able to use the ischool! I'm excited to see how the ischool will turn out!
